Right now I really don't have time to deal with an upgrade disaster, but I have been hearing so many good things about Mageia 2 upgrade process that I decided yesterday after work to give it a go. I went into control center and edited all of the sources from Magea 1 to Mageia 2 and then went on console 1 and did `urpmi --auto-update -v`. It broke after an hour or so due to some sort of internet glitch, so I killed it and restarted with the same command ... and basically went to bed and got up this morning to find it had completed. At that point, I reissued the command again and it picked up a few more packages. Then, since things were out of sync and I had lost all my menus and dbus in the upgrade process, I did a shutdown and restart. Restart failed and I had all these bad feelings in my gut with all my past Mandriva experiences. Then I realized that I have a quirky custom grub configuration, so I got it booted up to maintenance mode OK and went in and did `ed` on "/boot/grub/menu.lst" and sure enough, it was messed up. I quickly fixed it with the line editor and rebooted wondering what the next problem would be. To my amazement, it not only booted up, but it was beautiful, glorious, an improvement in everyway over Mageia 1 and, I still can't believe it, nothing broke ... in fact everything works better! I'm totally blown away! I converted to systemd in the process and it worked flawlessly first time. One caution though, it doesn't work with the older kernels. You can only boot Mageia 2 up successfully with the 3.3 kernel. But aside from that, we have been using it all day today and EVERYTHING works. Totally amazing! THANKS MAGEIA TEAM! You have done an amazing job. This is absolutely the first time in my life that I have had an upgrade go perfectly! The very FIRST time EVER. I am looking forward to doing the upgrade my my other Mageia system tomorrow! - George
