I never thought I'd ever see that

Here wizards, magicians, sorcerers and everybody can rest a bit and talk about anything they like.

Just remember to respect the rules.

I never thought I'd ever see that

Wow, what a day. Spent the morning following the Olympic flame on its journey through Cornwall on local radio and the BBC website. Never realised it could be so addictive watching a red dot move across a screen.

Then this afternoon I went out to watch it come through my town. I never imagined we'd see it here, and it passed only about 50m from my house, how cool is that. I decided to go a bit further along the route to watch, stood right by a handover point, got to touch one of the torches. Can't remember when I last saw so many happy faces in this town. The place really came alive, fantastic atmosphere.

After the torch had gone by, a lot of us went up the hill to my church where they were serving cream teas. Great end to a brilliant occasion.

Goodness knows when we'll all come down to earth.

Yes, the magic of public games still works, after thousands of years.

BTW: where are you living in Cornwall? I spent time there (Exeter (Devon, yes, it's not Carnwall!) and Newquai around 50 years ago and loved the country and the home made food (I can still feel the taste of that salty butter and the jam, even after so many years)!

I even met the Beatles there when they shot scenes of their Magical Mystery Tour in Newquai!

I'm in St Austell. The town itself is nothing to write home about, but it's well placed for getting to all the best bits of the county.

At least I remember it as a quick lunch stop on my way from Plymouth to Truro (and further to St Ives) .... :) I remember nothing else about the place but it's funny how names stick although there was nothing important happening to me there.

This really makes me think of having a short holiday trip to Cornwall one of these days!

Yes, it's a special experience - had a similar encounter in 1972 in Germany, when at that time nobody expected what would happen a few days later... :(
