I really like how clean it is, and it suits that wallpaper which is great in it's own right. I sadly cluter mine up with temp readings, HDD usages, folder views etc. etc.

Thanks Isadora. Thanks Xboxboy... PS all the junk is on the taskbar at the bottom (set to autohide) using widgets where possible (they dont all work well but thats probably me). I had thought to add row after row of task bars (all set to autohide). I like a really clean desktop and a simple pic that I actually want to look at. I mainly use Wikipedia for pics..( ps My favourite thing today is my bright red curser on the matt dark background)

Hi,

Here's mine. I created the wallpaper using GIMP and customized my conky. I like my desktop to be quite minimal. This is on a KDE desktop environment. Hope someone might like it :D

Well... mine. It's KDE and the panels are autohidden by default. I admit that my inner goth remodelled a little bit. :3

If someone is curious, background is this: http://mali-chan.deviantart.com/art/Suc ... -301005593 which is not yet updated for my new laptop's screen resolution. On my old laptop and system my desktop looked like this: http://mali-chan.deviantart.com/art/My- ... -194719890 (wallpaper may vary)

I was playing around with wallpapers to enter in the contest but never entered them. This one was made from a world map at Wikipedia that didn't have license restrictions and changed to use Mageia colors. I was trying to reflect the "Worldwide" use of Mageia and only made it in 1920x1080. I keep my desktop pretty simple unless I clutter it up with temporary text files that I use for info I just want to keep for a bit then delete or file it away, then they're moved into the files folder on the desktop.

I did make a few other wallpapers and some of them may be better for some people. After using this one for an hour I kept it and have been using it for a few months. I can share it if you'd like to have it, I just haven't taken the time. I might be having back surgery if they think it'll help and that has slowed me down a lot. I just uploaded them and they were just ideas but someone may like them. I kind of liked the bubble one too. It all started when I bought a great book on GIMP.

The cauldron with the icons for bubbles isn't anywhere near done. It is kind of like a scribble to get an idea written down.

All 6 are 1920x1080 and shared here:

Thanks for sharing yankee495!!!!

Great wallpaper, the map.

Number one; i love maps,
number two: it's ease for the eyes by it's simpleness,
and number three: i like your Mageian inspiration.

Keep on going, i like it :!: :!: :!:

Thank you so much Isadora. At first I thought it was too simple, not enough wow factor. But I used it for a little while and immediately liked the clean simplicity of it. It took a while to find one that I could work with and had the proper licensing, which is:

I, the copyright holder of this work, release this work into the public domain. This applies worldwide.
In some countries this may not be legally possible; if so:
I grant anyone the right to use this work for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File: ... ue_sea.svg

It is from Wikicommons. So there it is in case anyone wants to expand the idea or use it for whatever reason. I don't think they all have the same license but there are a lot of them here:

And here:

Out of curiosity, I think I've asked that already some time ago but my memory struck me ...
That Mageia cauldron ASCII graphic in the left terminal, is that from screenfetch ?

doktor5000, yes. That is from screenfetch.
Code: Select all
[xxblx@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa screenfetch
screenfetch-3.2.0-2.mga4

BTW, this is not about a complete desktop but I just learned today that quite a lot of terminals provide truecolor support.

Some terminals already allow to play videos and preview images =)
Look video about Terminology from Enlightenment https://youtu.be/Jaj2YeVrB7w
I also attach screenshot where I opened image preview right in terminal :)

Well, that's not really in the terminal, but using an overlay :p
What I'm thinking about is more like http://caca.zoy.org/wiki/libcaca or libaa - vlc also has a libcaca output plugin, which does real ASCII art output in the terminal ...

Look great. If libcaca use ncurses & s-lang then it's possible to create beautiful colored console apps for direct using framebuffer with this lib for systems without X-server (or without access to X-server). Very interesting.

FWIW, also mplayer supports direct output to framebuffer, so you can watch videos on a headless server with no X running :)
But this is getting a bit offtopic ...
