wow, after I saw your desktop, I cant wait to try RazorQT. I dont like KDE. Gnome was my de facto but gnome 3 killed it :-(.. now I am stuck with XFCE which is ok but I guess RazorQT is cool enough to give a try.

Can you post any tips <N things to do after installing RazorQt> , some thing like that?

anyways, I will post my desktop after trying this new kid.

it's just KDE4 with the bare-naked theme. Wallpaper is of my own collection.

Alf

PS to be more precise work space switcher and widget background are from H20-theme and as window decorator i use dark-translucent.

I'm seeing allot of nice looking plasma desktops. Do any of you run a 3rd party dock/panel?

I use glx-dock in addition to the standard plasma panel on Cauldron, but always like playing around with new customizations.

Nice! I like glx-dock but don't currently use it. Could never make up my mind how I wanted it configured.

Nice conky panel, BTW. Was that difficult to setup?

Thanks, yeah Cairo/GLX Dock is the best dock/panel for Linux IMHO for both KDE and Gnome. Of course if you use Gnome, you have horrible taste and probably won't like it..
The included themes for the dock leave allot to be desired; however, I'm the kinda guy that likes to customize anything and everything myself, so it didn't bother me. With a little time you can create a setup that will look allot better than those canned themes for sure.
VoodooDali wrote:Nice conky panel, BTW. Was that difficult to setup?

No, Conky is pretty straight forward. Its native behavior does not allow for a transparent background like I have though. To accomplish this you will want to use a cool little image program called "feh". Feh is called when Conky is invoked via conky.sh.
My conky.sh:
Code: Select all
#! /bin/bash
conky -&
sleep 3
feh --bg-scale `grep 'wallpaper=' ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc | tail --bytes=+11`

As far as customizing Conky, I'll PM you my config (~/.conkyrc) to give you an idea, then if you desire you can just modify it to meet you specs.

Conky does allow transparency. Here is my conkyrc, the part that defines the window.

Code: Select all
own_window yes
own_window_type normal
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_hints undecorated,below,skip_taskbar,sticky,skip_pager
no_buffers yes
minimum_size 200 5
maximum_width 200
draw_shades no
draw_outline no
draw_borders no
stippled_borders 0
alignment bottom_right
gap_x 20
gap_y 20
uppercase no

Play with it a bit and you'll get it. I don't know what feh is but you don't need it, at least not for transparency.

After doing a little homework, I find that Conky provides pseudo-transparency, not the real thing. So it reads from the root window and paints the contents underneath the panel. So apparently, if the desktop in use doesn't post a background directly to the root window, you get a black box. "Feh" turns out to be one of a series of programs designed to compensate for that.

That's conky with full transparency. No feh, just e17 with compositing module running.
