Forgot to take a picture while it was cooking, but I remembered before I started eating. :D

Stew.
I'm not sure what to call it, it's got beef and lots of vegetables of at least 4 colors.

I liked how the last picture came out, so this time I took the picture in the bowl on purpose.

Ahh, yes. I am familiar with that way of Pasta Bolognese. In fact, that's pretty similar to what I got in a restaurant once.
Needless to say, I was disappointed. See, in my eyes, the pasta is just an excuse. So I added just enough pasta to justify eating meat-sauce ;P
Also, that shape pasta (what I call angry pasta) was on sale, so..

Ok, there are more flavors and shapes of "pasta" than ways to skin a cat. The most common dish over here (in that area) is "Spaghetti Bolognese" but you can combine almost all kinds of pasta with all kinds of sauce, sea food, whatever. It's like with potatoes, rice, pizza, etc. While "Bolognese" is a fixed recipe for a certain kind of meat sauce.

Do you prefer your eggs boiled, or baked?

Nope.
I never cook from a recipe, and people who ask me for one are always disappointed. I never measure anything.

I think it would be fun to see some totally unknown recipes :)

I don't cook by recipe much anymore (I go more by what's in the fridge), but I did buy scales that can weight differences of 1 gram and I am curious, when I see some of the pictures in this thread, how it was made ;)

Same lazyness here today: I took a pizza out of the freezer and put it in the oven. It seems ages ago that I spent hours on preparing a special "real" meal ;)

TBH, I've been subscribed to organic vegetables and fruit bags for years: every week the bags contained different vegetables and fruits. The vegetables still had to be washed and cut to pieces and/or cooked, so that was "real" work ;)

"Hours"? I try not to spend more than an hour on any one dish that I make (start to finish, including cooking time).
If making several dishes in parallel I would spend an hour and a half, at most 2.
But really, it only takes so long to eat it, so spending a lot of time to make it, while fun, seems like a waste of time.

Been a while since I've made something new.
Not sure what to call this. I started out by making home fries, then threw in half a kilo of lean ground chuck.
I suppose that to do this properly I should have roasted the potatoes a little in the oven, to give them that crispness before adding the meat, but I really didn't have the patience. Was tasty anyway. :D

This looks just like the kind of food I prefer:
- not many dishes crowding the table
- not much to clean up afterwards
- not more than one tool needed to eat it
You can even spare the dishes if you use a decent pot!

- you could add some sauerkraut to the whole thing (put it into the pot only short before the end)
- you could also add some red wine while cooking (let it cook for a while to reduce it).
- - if you don't want alcohol use some chicken fond instead
- you may think about pan-fry the meat first (only very short) before putting it in the pot.

I did do that.
When cooking with ground meat, and often with chunks of meat, I almost always brown the meat in the frying pan first.
For ground meat it greatly reduces cooking time, and for chunks of meat it helps to seal in the flavor of the meat.
I recall one time I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to cook, so I threw some chunks of meat in the frying pan, and figured I'd go from there.
I gently fried the meat in its own fat, then added onion and garlic (still no oil). At this point it was getting too much to handle, so I put it in a larger pot.
It looked pretty lonely there, so I added some potatoes (white and sweet), more onions and carrots. Then a lot of water and spices. After the water boiled it was too watery for me, so I added some barley.
And that's how I accidentally made stew ;P

Turu which at first glance it is horrible right?

But it is a delight, even eaten raw

Finally typical food of my region
=== Edit ===

More information about my region Marajó:
his is a really different food, so it is important to clarify to everyone, this is one of the typical food of the native population of the Island of Marajó, Pará (Amazon), in northern Brazil (see googlemaps, see wikipedia: Marajó Island , Marajó Island: Beautiful images, Marajó Island - Imagens Google)

[list]The 10 weirdest foods -2) BROTH OF TuRU - Brazil
Turu The clam is a hard head and body gelatinous, is the size of a finger and live in rotten trees, fallen. Consumed on the island of Marajó and within the Amazon live and raw, in soup or stew with flour, the pet is rich in calcium and viewed as aphrodisiac. The taste is similar to the seafood.

But Marajó also other types of food such as crab, and the "yellow flour":

Reading this whole thread again I see that this thread is not about food - it's about culture!

Food is what you need to live, you can live very long on pills and some paste without any taste as long as all needed proteins, vitamins, etc. are supplied. I lived on drip-feeding for almost 6 weeks, no problem.

But cooking, using various ingredients, resulting in a great experience of taste is culture. It is like the difference between being able to hear noises and visting a concert. Cooking is an art, from writing a simple but nice tasting children's song which just makes you happy, up to composing a sophisticated concerto with several different movements.

Thanks for all your pieces of art in this thread. :)
