Is there anyone offering a free alternative to you tube?

There's dailymotion.com, if you mean free of charge. In the interest of balance, it should be said that there are several others as well.

What do you mean exactly by free alternative? Free as in free beer?

No. I mean a version of Mageia that incorporates a scheme of some sort for the use of videos to and from the server. I wonder if anyone could suggest some way of operating a Linux facility like that. I have no idea what ramifications might be involved but I would happily sign up for a paid version.

Co-Opt Pirate Bay or some such. I have no idea.

Well, any Mageia installation can run a webserver ... or a UPNP/DLNA server for streaming.

Ooh! Nice how do I start?

Anyone interested in helping Thaumaturge make a Final Fantacy-like video based on real geo-physics?

Media Goblin is trying to be a libre FSF alternative to youtube...it is a neat project, but keep in mind it has nowhere near the amount of videos as the proprietary options...https://mediagoblin.org/

I don't have a clue what to do with Media_Goblin. I want to get involved but I never was au fate with Linux and since suffering a minor stroke a few months back my ability to cope with typing skills took a couple of knocks, mainly to do with memory loss.

But the standard querty keyboard is not the finest issue to stroke sufferers.

I finally decided to get into video if I can, so I went back to MediaGoblin and looked around. The video I watched was like watching a startled chicken on speed. Are all nerds like that?
On trying to ask on you tube I got into difficulties so I checked MediaGoblin against site validator:

https://validator.w3.org/nu/?doc=https% ... lin.org%2F Not promising, admittedly it was just a thrown together example for a show with no time to go over it. So where is the polished version that an artist would produce?

re Nurds

not to be too politically correct, we are all Nurds of one sort or another, so such a comment could be insensitive.

Fortunately nerds are quite insensitive.

Unfortunately the project is going nowhere because the initial push ran out of steam. I think it fell into the disrepair that an organisation incurs when the overall control falls into the hands of a nice guy. People lack the discipline to get the core utility done and waste time painting the flowers if they can't be held to a deadline.

They need to get an ex-military type with experience of logistics and accountancy to act as the director. Choose a busy man who has no time for dreaming.

Thank you, Peter, for helping to keep a sober tone in here.

It is nice to imagine that once the US and other world leaders' deepstate has been dealt a blow all five eyes together will be busy lamenting the end of empires and a return to better balance, even a reboot for better, freer systems.
