I wish I could be more active

Hello,

it is July 2016 and M6 should come out soon. I feel bad that I have done nothing to help with its release.

I'm on the QA team but I've been inactive for over two years. I also have a lot of hardware that I could test Mageia out on, which could help to improve overall compatibility. But I don't have the energy to install it on all that hardware.

It's not without a cause, as I have severe depression. I'm on medication and getting therapy for it.

Hopefully as I get better, I will become more active. If you have any tips on how I can make myself more active, let me know. I know that my ability to manage my daily schedule is pretty pathetic. I guess that's one of the key things I'll need to work on.

Hello,

Don't you think that being very useful to a community could be a good medicine?
As you wrote it, you can install Mageia 6 on your hardware and fill bug reports. If you have a lot of hardware, there is also something more you can do. If you read the MCC help here:
http://docteam.mageia.nl/en/MCC/content/
you can see there are some holes because we don't have the hardware or the skills to write it, may be you could help us on that as well.
Tell us more about what are your likings and we will find you something to do, but I think the mailing lists are more the place to be for that, you have one for each team.

Being a more active member of the community is likely to be positive for you.
So, welcome back.

Go over your notes from Mageia3 or 4 testing.
Find that which you preferred, pre-release.iso testing, or QA updates testing

Choose one complete system and just use that one for your testing for a while.

As Lebarhon points out, there are many areas that more willing hands are needed, and your help will be welcome.

Hi ca-on-adam.
Welcome around again.

Congratulation for the courage to come out with this. There are some nasty and VERY wrong stereotypes in many cultures about that. Besides me I have several close ones which had depression too in some period of life.
I'm sorry for your condition but OTOH I'm sure you'll get better if you commit to YOUR recovery. So your best way to also help us in the long run is to follow the therapy and instructions from professionals and listen to the experience from those who managed to pass those dark valleys.
From the experience and understanding the following might help you. Enjoying outdoors especially sun (with protection if needed of course), including more vegetables (especially green one) on in meals, having a proper REGULAR sleep rhythm (not to much or too little), VERY IMPORTANT is socialising as isolation can severely worsen the situation.
Depending on the root cause feeling helpful and useful can help too. You might try if it works for you. Start small as I know how hard is to concentrate and to be creative.

If there are any good 12 step groups for the root cause near you you can try them too. Other then some lost time you can only gain from them.

Even if you can't really install and report bugs and stuff you can help yourself and us if you're active on MLs and forum. That might help you feeling connected and usefull. After all there's also a social component in a community. And I feel that Mageia community is good at it. So you can help us maintaining it.

Good luck and keep in touch.

Many of us have had periods when we couldn't contribute for a variety of reasons. I could not donate any of my time to Mandrake or Mandriva, even if I used Mdk & Mdv since Mdk 8.1

Installing on all that hardware is a far too large goal! Thinking of doing that already makes me tired, and I do not have a depression ;)

It would already help if you'd just try whether you can start a Live DVD in Live mode on one machine....
You can take another small step after that (like reporting on QA ml if there were problems booting it, or playing with it if booting went fine and the DE came up nicely).

Please do not push yourself too hard! One small step at a time would already be cool!

plspls you really need to work on your forum manners.
You could easily have asked this question in your thread with your similar questions viewtopic.php?f=12&t=11286
