A big thank you to the people who put together Mageia, I installed it on an i5 based server and had absolutely no problems with it. (though one "huh... :( moment, more on that below) I am so impressed I'm checking it out for desktop use atm. So far it looks as smooth and rock solid as the server, among the finest operating systems I've seen, and I've used quite a few.

On the desktop system I encountered one minor glitch. When I set the notifications to NOT handle file transfers, I lost all indication of progress. It's supposed to default back to the file manager's internal progress meter, but it doesn't in a user account. (it does for root) I'll try a different user next time I get a shot at it.

The brief 'what's with that?' moment was discovering that the webmin packaged for Mageia there's no module for samba. I'll download the upstream and keep it handy if I find myself installing Mageia on another server. (a very likely scenario)

The only other bump was discovering you don't package gqview. I understand you can't package literally everything, and there's a ton of more up-to-date image handlers, but I love everything about gqview, the settings options, speed etc. I'll look into whether there's an upstream, sidestream or whatever available that I can maybe compile myself.

That is it's no big deal, I wouldn't label any of these a problem, though the file xfer thing does appear to be a bug, maybe something with my particular install.

Thanks again, kind Mageia people. This is about the smoothest, swiftest, easiest and most successful Linux installs I've ever done. Everything just plain works. Well done. You people deserve an award or something.

Strange, gqview is in the repositories for Mageia 1 but not for 2 or cauldron.
Perhaps it's no longer maintained so has been dropped.

The rpm from 1 may work, it's worth a try.

Yes according to http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/obsolete/gqview/ gqview was obsoleted in favor of geeqie which according to geeqie's website (http://geeqie.sourceforge.net/) is a fork of gqview. Have you tried geeqie instead?
