Crap :( your Netflix should be working then. The particular "1001" error you're receiving indicates that EUupdate.EXE didn't install to the right directory (or didn't install at all). But it seems like you did everything right.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

If i were you i'd never run wine as root - it could open your linux installation to the same malware as every normal windows.

Hi, running "env WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.Netflix wine EUupdate.EXE" I get this message:

"fixme:advapi:DecryptFileA "C:\\users\\valdemar\\Temp\\IXP000.TMP\\" 00000000"

and I continue to have the 1001 problem.

Then please don't disturb in this thread, that's rather unconstructive and not nice to those who still have problems getting it to run.

It was not the purpose, but to point out again, this is a problem Mageia. I like Mageia very good, but it does not help and tell what you can do when you can not tell how! I went over to Mint15, when I repeatedly tried to solve the problem without success!

Well, it's working for three people in this thread, and you didn't even post the exact problem you have. So how should we help you solve your problem, using a crystal ball maybe?

You tried everything - what did you try exactly? What errors did you get? Why didn't you post any of them here so we can take a look and try to fix them?

I take this tomorow after install Mageia again.

This is form the realese Mageia page i write:

Very good, the best distro I’ve tested so far in the past 10 years.
The only thing that remains is well Netflix and Silverlight support. But this depends both of Microsoft! But it really is legally permissible and shut out a whole computer systems from web-tv movies this way Microsoft does? I highly doubt it. Had someone been Microsoft understands the court, they had never succeeded from the competition till the sight / authorities. Microsoft uses Silverlight proven to squeeze out Linux from the market, which is not allowed.

Sorry, i'm not sure what your point or your problem is.

FWIW, i'm not interested in neither Netflix or Silverlight (for which there is moonlight as an opensource alternative) but i've just tried out the steps described by digigold and it worked just fine, the player and the font package installed correctly without problems. Netflix player works fine, even if it's not available in my country.

I've gotten this to work with everyone I have been able to communicate in realtime with. (irc, in-person, etc.) Wine can be a pain, but it runs very well in mageia. If Netflix runs in Mint it's in Wine, as moonlight (opensource silverlight) lacks the ability to handle some DRM stuff that Netflix uses. Since silverlight cannot be run natively in *nix systems any working version of Netflix on a *nix system is run inside an instance of wine. I would encourage you to try and troubleshoot as it is a great way to learn. Mint maybe "shiny" but I assure you Mageia offers many benefits over any flavor of Ubuntu I've ever used.

Good Luck

Yes, I have tried Winetricks to install fonts and I have also manually populated the .netflix prefix windows/fonts folder.

Installation went fine. I only encounter the 1001 problem - and I am not running Mint, but Mageia 3 :-)

Why did you populate it manually?
And what error do you get when you try to install the microsoft font package via wine?

Somebody suggested that in another thread.

And what error do you get when you try to install the microsoft font package via wine?

As said above:
Code: Select all
fixme:advapi:DecryptFileA "C:\\users\\valdemar\\Temp\\IXP000.TMP\\" 00000000

Thanks!

That is no error, only an informational message. You get this even when installation is successful. Why do you believe that is an error?

What is you real, current problem with netflix player, when following the instructions from digigold in the first post in this thread?

Problem solved. I apologize for having kind of wasted your time. I deleted all files in windows/fonts and re-run "wine EUupdate.EXE" - and now Netflix is working. Thanks to digigold for having provided this solution that makes Mageia an almost complete OS.

OK guys, so if you are having trouble with EUupdate.exe I am now posting a solution where the windows executable is not needed. This solution uses winetricks instead.

Open up a CLI and run the following where 'nfuser' is the user currently logged on.
Code: Select all
[nfuser@mgabox ~]$ su -
Password: *******
[root@mgabox ~]# export WINEPREFIX=/home/nfuser/.Netflix
[root@mgabox ~]# gksu -u nfsu winetricks fonts

You should now see the following window:
0607131.png
winetricks EUfont workaround
0607131.png (66 KiB) Viewed 4892 times

✩ Notice the titlebar has the ~/.Netflix prefix, NOT the ~/.wine default prefix ✩

Just check the box for eufonts as shown and proceed.

Should work just like the exe fie.
