Here is a trick I discovered for myself. I am Using Mageia-2 and KDE. It also worked with Mageia-1 and I am certain it will work with any OS that uses KDE.

When you right click in any open or part open window space you will get a pop-up menu that offers a choice <LEAVE>, clicking on <LEAVE> presents another pop-up menu offering
log-out, shutdown or reboot. Clicking reboot starts the process through to the boot menu where you choose what you want, click on it and the process then runs through to the Login Screen.

Here is the trick.......
When you get the <LEAVE> pop-up menu, don't just click on it, instead hold the mouse left click button down and in a moment or two the Boot menu will appear. While still holding the mouse left click button down, slide the mouse pointer over the choice you require on the boot menu and only then release the mouse button. The process starts immediately and proceeds non-stop through to the Login Screen.
While this only saves about 2 or so seconds by making one action unnecessary, what it also does is join two useless short intervals into one longer one that you can utilise for say grabbing a quick drink. So there are two benefits. Thank you KDE.

Pressing ctrl-alt-del in kde gives also the logout, shutdown and reboot menu.
But is there a keyboard combo to select one of the options of the reboot?
Now I always have to grab the mouse to reboot directly into mageia.
At work I learned from colleagues that keyboard use only is vastly superior (e.g. faster) to mouse use.
My wish for kde: implement for every possible mouse action on screen a keyboard equivalent and assign a key (combo) that can reveal those keyboard shortcuts immediately.

In that pop up Logout is selected with a 30sec delay, pressing Enter bypasses the delay.
For Shutdown, Reboot or Cancel just use the up/down arrow keys to highlight the desired action and press Enter or wait the 30sec.

What you appear to be looking for is modifying Grub for the next boot,

No, Ken, you misunderstood me.
The option Reboot (actually it's called "Restart Computer") of the KDE logout shows the entries of the grub boot menu when you keep pressing the button "Restart Computer" and then you can select one of those entries with your mouse.
But I would like to know how to select those entries of the "Restart Computer" button of the KDE logout with my keyboard.
I should ask this question at KDE forums.

Maybe you could try, defining customized shortcuts in KDE System Settings -> Shortcuts and Gestures.

I tried your mouse trick and the reboot went through the bios and Grub stage 1.5 loaded and immediately handed the booting over to LILO which immediately booted what I'd chosen.
As you said the KDE forum might be a better place to ask how this is done and how one would make a keyboard short cut to do it.

Select reboot, and when the rest of the screen is greyed out, and you get that Reboot button,
hold down space, and with cursor keys select the reboot option you want from the menu which appears.
But there's no way to quit the reboot process once you pressed space, FWIW.
