[SOLUTION] Viewing DRM flash video's from Amazon

Postby caskyline10 » Jun 18th, '12, 04:00

Hi,
After installing Mageia2 and installing Flash from the Mageia software repository, I was unable to view videos from Amazon. When starting the movie, a message would appear that the player is being updated, then I got this error:

"An error occured and your player could not be updated. This is likely because your Flash player or Browser needs to be updated.
This update is required to play back this video."

The solution for me was to go into the Mageia repositrory and install HAL, (Hardware Abstraction Layer). There is some info on the Adobe web site about this requirment. After installing HAL, then deleting:
~/.adobe/Flash_Player/AssetCache
~/.adobe/Flash_Player/NativeCache

and restarting the system, I was able to play the movie.
Just thought I would pass this along if anybody else is searching for a solution.

Can you please give a link to the Adobe site where this is listed as a requirement?

Here are the pages I referenced:
The Amazon error dialog gives you this link:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=atv_drm_flash_help?nodeId=200256920#flash

Where there is a note about Linux that takes you to this link on Adobe that specifically mentions Amazon video and HAL:

Ahh, okay, so this is only about DRM-protected videos. I've never tried or needed to watch those, and probably never will.

But good to know, and nice that you shared your solution here. :D
