Gnome 3

Postby saptech » Apr 15th, '11, 03:32

Is it possible that Gnome 3 will be available for the final release? I just ran a Fedora Gnome3 live cd and I must say, it is pretty sweet looking. I'm currently at work on new hardware, a Lenovo ThinkCentre C2D with 2mb of ram and it seems everything was picked up and working on the livecd.

I hope at least it will become available in the repositories as an option.

Just a thought anyway.

The first stable release will not have Gnome 3. Mageia at present is concentrating on producing a stable system. Building and testing Gnome 3 would probably consume too much time and effort. There are just not enough contributors available yet to do everything.

Well, yes, that makes sense...Mageia needs to concentrate on releasing a first stable version before focusing on the bleeding edge.

Thnx.

From the DVD you can install several environments, KDE, Gnome, LXDE, other...
In the installer pass the first desktop selection screen with selecting "Custom", then in the package group selection mark the DE you want.

It's almost 100% sure Gnome 3 will be present in Mageia 2, indeed.
