Why American English in African Indian set

Postby graeme » Aug 7th, '11, 21:20

Why does the Africa/Indian set of languages use American English, rather than British.

My experience of South Asia is that spellings are British English, although American idioms have become common, that is less important (computers do not understand idioms!).

Most of the other languages in the set are used in Commonwealth countries so British English will be acceptable, and probably preferred.

I guess American English is present on all sets of languages because it was unofficially chosen as the reference language for Mageia.
But I suppose you are right, British English would be a better choice for the African/Indian set of language.
