Contents of /etc/group

Ref to the topic user-numbers > 1000 in the Testing list.

Well, I checked my /etc/group file again, and I defintely see some names in it.
So I did a little searching on Google and found http://linux.die.net/man/5/group . So?????
I remain wondering why users with a private group are not included in the group users, unless this group is a sort of default, to avoid users having no group at all?

The only names in my /etc/group file are the group names. However, if you have private groups for users, the default is that the group name is the same as the user name (so, for that reason, I disagree with doktor5000's statement).

The "users" group is used if you create a new user but don't choose to create a private group for that user.
