Can't install Mageia1 in AMD A8 processor / A75FCH chipset

Postby ml » Jul 5th, '11, 07:08

Hardware: AMD A8 3850 + ASRock A75M-HVS

After creating partition, selecting none for extra media, I got error in choose
packages. Press ctl-alt-1 to get details about the error, I got...

Entering step 'Choosing packages'
Gdk-CRITICAL ** gdk_drawable_real_draw_pixbuf: assertion 'src_x >= 0 && src_x + width <= gdk_pixbuf_get_width(pixbuf)'
failed at /usr/lib/libDrakX/mygtk2.pm line 358

As I can create partition, it should be fine with Chipset A75 FCH (Hudson-D3).

I also found it in Mdk2010.1, Mdk2010.2 :)

You verified the MD5-Sums of your downloaded iso and the burned disc?

And you write: "After creating partition, selecting none for extra media, I got error in choose
packages." Which error do you get when choosing packages, i mean you must see some graphical
error message, what does it say?

I check DVD iso MD5sum before burning. Mdk2010.0,.1,.2 always showed difference but Mageia1 showed it correct even it broken several times in download with Filezilla.

In the graphical install screen, it is in 'PACKAGE GROUP SELECTION', it showed two lines as follows:
An error occurred:
1

Ofcourse and a button "Next". Press Next about three times with same "An error occurred" & 1, it jumped back to partition.

Besides, I select Text for install trying to avoid any graphical error. However, it start GUI still, well, another bug, I will check and file to bugzilla.

It could be a bad burn - did you tell your burning program to verify the burn?

I just try another burn DVD from i586 image, but it showed the same error as the x86_64 image before. So, it is not the burn I believe as I can install i586-dvd on a slow PIII-550. And it showed same problem in Mdk2010.1 which dvd I used before.

Well, I cound install Uuu11.04 in this A8, but it is not the way I familiar.
e.g. The eth0 is up and ping local ip ok... but I can't get ping gateway that I should ?! In GUI desktop, there is a 'Connecting Infomation' show 'No vaild active connections found'! Also, Edit Network Connection show no Connections... What a inconsistency! :(
But at least, I got Uuu installed.

... How can I install Mageia ... I want... Help.... please move this thread to support or advanced support or... I could build my ISO. :)

Did you try a text-mode installation, using the work-around?

https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2038#c2

Another option may be to try one of the live CD's. (They use a different installation method.)

I tried text-mode and identified that the error was urpmi: 1
I also report to https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2034#c3

I think the sata DVD drive is not the drive I burn the DVD. I would try liveCD and USBdrive.

Can't install DVD ISO in AMD A8 processor / A75FCH chipset

Postby ml » Jul 8th, '11, 12:00

Fail to Install by USB stick from the x86_64 DVD ISO.

But Good news! Installable by liveCD. However, it is i586, 32bit system, 3GB Ram. Will there a LiveCD x86_64 ISO?

Like those installed Uuu11.04 (amd64) and CentOS (x86_64) before, ping local IP ok, failed to ping gateway. I am almost going to change the motherboard.

It is weird that running liveCD, network is up, ping local IP ok, ping gateway failure. After installed, ping gateway OK!!! Everything is fine!

Hey! in config 3D Desktop effect.., No 3D desktop effects !!!

You may need to configure your display to use the proprietary video driver, in MCC - Set up the graphical server. (Make sure that the nonfree repo is enabled.)

There is a request for 64bit live CD's for Mageia 2, but that requires more people to be involved in creating and testing them.

Can't install Mga1 dvd iso in AMD A8 processor / A75FCH chip

Postby ml » Jul 8th, '11, 12:47

Thanks for remind me, I forgot the extra step for proprietary driver, quite simple, just chage X server from HD2000 and later (vesa/fglrx) to (radeonhd/fglrx). click ok. It will install. Now, everything is fine but 32bit :(

Idea install Mageia1DVD in AMD A8 processor / A75FCH chipset

Postby ml » Jul 8th, '11, 17:58

To solve the problem . I've two ideas.

Idea 1: Could we have a wiki to describe a manual procedure to install by using the DVD-iso. Like follows as example..

0. boot DVD, start to step 'Select language'
1. press [ctl+alt+F2] into console mode
2. su as superuser
3. fdisk to create patition
4. format patition
5. install kernal, grub
6. create user
7. reboot
8. rpm -ivh packages

I would like to help to test and finish the procedure but I need more information. The draft could be finished around a few hours by senior developer... I believe :)

Idea 2: Modify/patch ISO
1. mount ISO to folder /media/dvdiso
2. modify some files or patch some files from download.
3. burn disk
4. install

Idea 2 could be finished around 5 days.
