Hello Everyone,

I am new here and wanted to try out Mageia...I am not to interested in KDE or Gnome. Is there an option to install with XFCE? Or do I have to rip one of the others out after install? And if it's possible to start with XFCE which iso works(DVD, LIve CD, etc)

Kindest Regards,
Tim A

Take a look at Wiki pages regarding Mageia 3 - some info there.

What I have found/tried - on installed Live CD Beta 2: when loging in, there is a dropdown list with radio buttons allowing to choose desktop environments.
Just take a note - seems XFCE is a memory hog at the moment, for me it consumes about 400 MB by itself alone :(

Noticed this yesterday, haven't decided is it worth to make a bugreport.

It's not possible to select it as a desktop/package group in Mageia 2, only within custom package selection, core XFCE packages are on the DVD.
But what you can do is a minimal install via the DualArch CD (installs a light version of LXDE) and then afterwards only add task-xfce-minimal
or directly the real deal via task-xfce

Thanks for the replies everyone. .. I may just do a KDE install .....I actually haven't looked at KDE since 3.4 something or other....

Razor-QT also spare my interest.

@Tim. I installed Xfce over the top of Gnome. I was hoping to use net-install in future to bypass other desktops. Will report back when I actually try this.
