I approached the Linux world many years ago and the first distribution I installed was OpenCaldera then I move on Mandrake for many years.
I like the lightweight desktop, I use the computer to play with python , code :: blocks and wxWidgets and also to surf internet and download torrent
Now I'm using Ubuntu and Debian, but I'm tempted to try Mageia.
Convince me, why should I make the jump ?
Hi Gandalf,
Funny, I used Caldera too, for a very short time, when I started using Linux. Mandrake was indeed a lot better

I'm not going to convince you, I think you shouldn't
jump. In my opinion, trying step by step would be much better. Start with using a LiveCD, for instance. If you like that you might want to consider installing it
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Installation_of_Mageia_from_a_Live_CD, but before you do that, please read
http://doc.mageia.org/installer/2/en/content/setupBootloaderExpert.html, about combining Mageia2 with a distro that uses GRUB2. The last link is from the help for traditional installer, btw, most of the other pages in it are only usefull if you install with DVD, dual CD or boot.iso
Mageia 3 will have GRUB2, too, maybe Mageia3beta1 will already have it
Cheers,
