Here, here. There are a zilllon historical and literary mages around. Having been involved in ritual magick as a youth, I can tell you that there's a huge history there. The other thing to consider are accoutrements - athelame, talisman, hand of glory, pentagram, etc. In addition, there are tangential things as well that folk associate with magic -- Tarot, etc.
Mageia has already started this tradition with the "cauldron" concept. I think you should continue along that line:
Talisman
Athelame
Pentagram
Mandala
Grimoire

Not 'Mageia 2'. Not 'Mageia Einstein'. But always 'Mageia 2 Einstein'. Everywhere, always.
So people don't have to search the number when it is called 'Mageia Einstein'.
(Better no searching after 'Mageia 2' when writing 'Mageia Einstein'.)
And try to sync with the release-year and -date I would suggest. Of course this is not new; Ubuntu does it.
So maybe Mageia 1 Einstein etc. in 2011, Mageia 2 Paris in 2012, Mageia 1(11) Einstein a second version in 2011-november or something like it.

Have you checked all these names for availability as an official name of a distribution (like copyright issues (Dumbledore comes to mind), protected names, etc.)?

I'm neither a lawyer nor a specialist in name protection, but I remember well the long and financially exhausting lawsuit of Mandrake vs Hearst about the comic character "Mandrake" - Mandrakesoft did not sell plastic figurines, comic books or magic wands either.AndreSantos wrote:I only used parts of the name. I doubt that anyone can own the word "Dumbledore", or "Gandalf". If the name of the distro were "Mageia 'Albus Dumbledore'" I think that could be a copyright problem, but just the name.... And its just the name. We are not selling plastic figurines os characters, or writing a book with this names. But I dunno, I don't know the laws of the USA or other countries. In Brazil, that much is fine. But.....

wobo wrote:Yes, may be it sounds nice to say "I just installed "Greedy Galileo" instead of "Mageia 3". But think future: Someone comes by and tells you that he has a version of Mageia, called "Helpful Higgs" - would you know at once whether it was Mageia 3 or 6 or 2?
Having version numbers instead of names has a reason. Ask Ubuntu users about when they started with Ubuntu - most of them will say the version number because nobody remembers the names, except for a distro which changes version as seldom as Debian.
Mandriva Linux used code names like Traktopel and Bamboo - do you remember which version that was and which of those came first?
(A: Traktopel = 8.0, Bamboo = 9.1)
