Favourite DE for Mageia

Postby Voodoo » Aug 27th, '12, 00:47

E17 seems to be my favourite at the moment, it has some nice themes and runs nice and smoothly compared to the other IDE's under compiz. I also have XFCE and KDE, XFCE for mainly running games and so far KDE just as a backup.

Im not sure wether your supposed to have more than one DE installed cos I notice if i try install gnome with all the others installed it doesn't really work.

Mageia is supposed to manage more DEs installed.

problems on the wifi part has been reported
(see https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5250 and https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5583)
and we are intrested on each other problem you can see, so that it will be possible work on them.

But you must be clear in giving information:

this means gnome works for you when you have only it installed?

with more DE installed, have you tried to reboot your machine and go directly in gnome without load another DE before?

If you like to do these tests, you could also join to some irc channel, so you'll got faster answers

There are a lot of options but I only run KDE and ocasionally LXDE. Compiz runs great on KDE for me. (Haven't tried it in LXDE)

*^*^*EDIT*^*^* I now use qtCurve w/KWIN instead of LXDE as my middleweight DE/WM.

Just out of curiousity, is there a reason you run XFCE over LXDE. To me XFCE is in no-mans land. Not near as nice as KDE and other full featured DEs., but kind of heavy compared to LXDE and WMs like ICE and Fluxbox.

Yeah gnome works when its installed first. After i installed more DE's it stopped working but im not sure what I installed that stopped it working.

I dont know what you mean rebooting the machine and directly going into gnome without loading another DE. I always get the same login screen and I choose the DE I want to use from there.

I'd be glad to give up any information
I was unsure on how to list all the packages installed so I could copy them over. I tried to but it only displayed a few at a time and i couldnt copy the rest over.
