[SOLVED] Why not Mageia on a CD

Why does Mageia have to be such a large download? Why can't you make a CD version that has all the basics and then download extra programs as needed?

Like the Live CD or DualArch CD?

The install DVD would still be needed for those on dial-up such as our moderator Germ. Such people will download and burn a DVD at work or at a friends, bring it home and install.

There are several ISOs available.

There are the full installer DVDs containing exclusively free software, one for each architecture.
Then there is the dual arch cd (which does not exist for the alphas but will be back later), which is a ce for both architectures containing a rather minimal system.
And there are the installable LiveCDs for KDE and GNOME available in several language groups.

So there should be something for everyone's taste.

Please do note, that only the LiveCDs do contain nonfree firmware and drivers although we are experimenting with an additional firmware/driver cd for the installers.

Thanks for the info. I'll wait until the final version comes out next year.

Yes, I tried it briefly when it came out... it was OK (been using Mint 12), but Mageia 2 will be better. :)
