[SOLVED] Some clarification on Mageia's update policy?

Postby Dlrobin874 » Aug 15th, '21, 15:36

I know Mageia is meant to be a stable point release and I had thought from reading the documentation that meant a Debian-like update policy of no new versions ever, only security patches.

But I just installed Mageia 8 the other day and I found Darktable 3.6 and Rawtherapee 5.8 and I'm pretty certain I didn't enable backports. So are there some packages that are allowed to be updated, or did they just come out longer ago than what I realized and squeeze in under the freeze deadline?

Some small explanations about the update policy:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Updates_policy

Rawtherapee was already at version 5.8 when Mageia 8 was released
https://madb.mageia.org/package/show/name/rawtherapee

Darktable 3.4 was the first version shipped with Mageia 8.

Version 3.6 is a bugfix release without new features, see

Thanks, I think that explains my confusion. I'm used to Debian's way of doing things where even a bugfix only version bump doesn't usually happen.
