Dear Germ,

some time ago I did the same. Everything worked out of the box! The same as with you. but some time later I noticed that the update left a lot of orphans. I removed them all with "urpme --auto-orphans" or something like this. There was no damage at all. So it is possible that you can gain some space on your disk as well.

Greetings,

Erik Jan.

The update does not care about orphans, and you shouldn't probably, neither.

If you care about disk space, you're better of checking actual space consumption on disk via e.g.
Code: Select all
du -mx /|sort -rn|head -100

or sorting installed packages by size, and going through the biggest packages if you really need them.
Code: Select all
rpm -qa --queryformat '%{size} %{name}\n' | sort -rn | head -100

Thanbk you, Doktor, for your "magical formulas". I have saved this mail in my folder "Tweaks".

The orphans I mentioned, were all from Mageia 6, so there was no risk discarding them. Once before I discarded some "orphans" after checking if they really were orphans. Most were not. But in this case it was easy.

Thank you again.

Erik Jan
