I noticed today (16/12/18 ) that a system software update to Thunderbird has changed the released version to 'Daily' does anyone know if this is intentional or an error?

I'd say probably some cosmetic error upstream. Although you may want to mention what Mageia release you're on?

Mageia release 6 (Official) for x86_64

Seems not an upstream error, but the landing page which does not recognise the channel that our build uses, and https://live.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/start defaults to that daily page as a fallback.
