[SOLVED] KDE 4.14.5 not supported

Kde Network Notifier
always notifies network down
I had reported as a bug to KDE
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360261
I could submit as a mageia bug, if we're sticking with the older version of KDE?
here's what the notifier looks like when I disconnect/reconnect

My network notifier works, and my KDE identifies itself as 4.14.5

No we can't stick with the older KDE version, as bugs reported against it will usually be closed, and it's not developed anymore.

And no, it's not a Mageia bug. I also don't have that issue, for reference.

I have no preference on KDE version, I looked around & couldn't find anything definitive about if Mageia6 would move to plasma5
this is a minor issue
thanks for your time

I would expect to find this kind of info
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Main_Page
I would provide a link to Distribution Development if it existed...

I am also trying to figure out what got installed with mageia5-kde

You should follow the Mageia 6 Link (at section Distribution development as you proposed) and follow Development snapshot 1: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Development_snapshot_1
or Release notes: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_6_Release_Notes

Garthhh wrote:I am also trying to figure out what got installed with mageia5-kde
Also here you find such information in the Release notes: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5_Release_Notes

Everything can be reached by your link (at maximum one click further)

yes there are links under the heading distribution development, which is different than linking to a page Distribution Development, like most of the rest of the wiki

the release notes list all the different things that are available, not what was included for a specific ISO
KDE, Gnome & Dual Arch come with different stuff
there are probably lists that the devs use to get everything done before the final release

the wiki/documentation needs work, I occasionally do a bit

Each ISO has a *.idx file associated with it that lists every package along with it's version that's on the image.

How would I find an .idx file within an ISO?

You don't.
You look for the *.idx file where the *.iso fle is hosted.
For example ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pu ... 86_64-DVD/

I don't understand how this helps me see a list of what programs come with a KDE install?

Seems you're confused, quoting your previous question again:
Garthhh wrote:the release notes list all the different things that are available, not what was included for a specific ISO

Well, the .idx files contain the index of the packages that made it on the media, for that specific ISO. Which is probably the most precise answer based on your question above.

Maybe you should rephrase your question.

I went here

& chose KDE when I installed
there should be a list for kde, gnome & dual arch, I actually count at least 7 derivations
the idx looks like the list of everything, the release notes again?
I'm wondering about what comes with the different installs, not the dependencies, but the programs, everything that has a GUI

Only automated way to reliably list that is using the .idx files as those list the packages contained.
There is no reliable way to list "applications" as that would either mean parsing the respective .desktop files (which are used to create the applicatin menu entries) but which are often broken, customised to not show in some desktop environments or miscategorised. Or using the groups (categories) which the rpm packages are put it, but those are also not consistent, some packages may end up e.g. in Graphical desktop/KDE and for other KDE-related application they may end up in the group Office/Spreadsheet.

In short, repeating again: There is no way to consistenly provide an automatic and reliable listing of the contents of the media, other then the packages that were used to created the images.

Thanks for the reply
are you saying that every image is the same [only one idx], but individual items not used are null?

Sorry but I don't understand your question. For each image there is a separate .idx file containing the packages it contains/was created from. Obviously that will be different for each image flavour (free dvd, live dvd, dual arch dvd).
Did you at the very least have a look at the .idx files, that would also have answered your question ...

the only file I have seen is the one Ken-Bergen linked to which is labeled
Index of /pub/linux/Mageia/iso/cauldron/Mageia-6-dev1-x86_64-DVD/
When I look at any of the downloaded isos [Mageia-5-LiveDVD-KDE4-x86_64-DVD] I have I can not locate the idx
dolphin won't open directly, so ark seems to be the only way...

Thanks for the reply!
my question is what applications come as default with the different iso
the idx files are what I am looking for
I know I can click on any of the links provided
[new question]
from a searchbox how would I get to those lists?

Garthhh wrote:[new question]

By searchbox you mean some search engine like google or whatever you use?

Pretty difficult, but you can get there from the download page, which will always show the direct link to the images. Just use that link and strip away the image filename at the end, you end up in the folder with the .idx files.

thanks, getting close to understanding
the address for a 64 bit KDE looks like
https://www.mageia.org/en-gb/downloads/ ... 64-DVD.iso
what do you mean by
"strip away the image filename at the end"
I tried
https://www.mageia.org/en-gb/downloads/ ... x86_64-DVD
404
https://www.mageia.org/en-gb/downloads/get/?q=
404
https://www.mageia.org/en-gb/downloads/get/?q
404
https://www.mageia.org/en-gb/downloads/get
download page

At the download page for your image, e.g.
https://www.mageia.org/en-gb/downloads/get/?q=Mageia-5-LiveDVD-KDE4-x86_64-DVD.iso
you can see the md5 checksum and such, and also to which mirror you are redirected when you check the "click here" link there. For me this forwards to a german mirror
ftp://srv3.tuxinator.org/mageia/iso/5/Mageia-5-LiveDVD-KDE4-x86_64-DVD/Mageia-5-LiveDVD-KDE4-x86_64-DVD.iso
Simply strip away the filename and you end up with
ftp://srv3.tuxinator.org/mageia/iso/5/Mageia-5-LiveDVD-KDE4-x86_64-DVD/
which is the directory on the mirror, where you find the actual image, checksum files and index files.

that doesn't quite work [download starts]
but it did get me in the neighborhood
clicking on the mirror takes me to
a page of all the releases http://mirror.easthsia.com/mageia/iso/ [I got a different mirror, every time]
clicking on /5, leads to a list of all iso
clicking on an iso, leads to an index page
live have lst
the rest idx
more concise
Mageia>downloads>[any choice]>[any choice]>direct link>this[link]download mirror>iso/>5/>[iso of interest]>[lst or idx depending on choice]

anyway thanks for sticking with me
