Glad You Are Here!

Postby retriever » May 11th, '14, 21:00

So I just finished trying out Ubuntu 14.04. I read somewhere that when you search in their dash function that your info (including, but not limited to your ip address) is sent to various 3rd parties. So I inquired about this and was greeted by a nasty and hateful reply. I have never had a rude response from Mageia's forums and just wanted to say it is appreciated. I will never use or donate anything to Ubuntu or to distributions that use them as a base!

Thank you for your kindness!

You may be interested in the fact, that Mageia uses DuckDuckGo as the default search engine for most browsers.

It's not the default one actually, but it is available in the default list of search engines (at least in Firefox). I've been using DuckDuckGo Next (the new version in beta) for a few days, and I kind of like it. It's has a pretty and simple interface, and I like the philosophy behind DuckDuckGo. For now I don't find it as "efficient" as Google, but that's partly because I've been using Google for more than ten years and I know perfectly how to find what I want with it; so when I need to search for very specific content I switch back to Google for a query, but I keep DuckDuckGo as default search engine for all my "what was this website already?" queries :-)
