Builtin GMA 3100 & NVIDIA GPU switching

Postby badcoder » May 4th, '14, 23:16

I have NVIDIA PCIe video card and builtin Intel video card and in Mageia I can just simply remove NVIDIA GPU and Intel video card simply works. But in openSUSE I can't do so, because, as I been told, NVIDIA driver replaces libglx and libGL with its own incompatible versions and hardware acceleration just stop working and I have to delete NVIDIA drivers, blacklist another NVIDIA driver and related files to prevent their installation because package managment system for some unknown reason tries to install driver for older NVIDIA video cards and only after this hardware acceleration works with Intel video card. So, why in Mageia it is so simple? There is some program that keep an eye on this?

So your issue is with openSUSE, not with Mageia, from your description. Apart from that, if you install nvidia driver directly via nvidia installer, it has the option to not touch the openGL files/libraries. And you should usually install the distro packages, not directly from the vendor. The Mageia packages take care abotu that libglx/OpenGL thing.
