Mageia 4 RC Comments After Install

Hi Dok, Isadora and everyone.

I was going to wait until the final was released but the itch wouldn't stop and I wanted to try and help out with bugs. I set out to upgrade from Mageia 3 x64 to 4 x64, but my internet was messed up all day and most of the night with ice storms. As I said, I had the itch so I did a clean install.

During install it told me it couldn't find core release and I see that has been reported. AMD Catalyst Control Center (Administrative) doesn't launch but I've read that is an AMD thing, and neither does fusion-icon. I've fixed CCC but don't know about fusion-icon, it says something about a programmer error.

So anyway, I didn't intend to redo everything but I'm so glad I did as Mageia 4 is running awesome! I haven't noticed anything unstable or display problems and even my optical out is working which took a little work on Mageia 3.

My Kcomenten4 screen saver hack worked and TRIM is working. I have not had a single problem past the installer. Also I love the new Welcome Window and the chat is a great idea, Dok was in there when I tried it!

The codecs, Flash and Java are all working and I'm certain it is the best so far, on par with the best Mandrake and Mandriva releases. I seen some complaints about the art work but I don't think anyone uses the default wallpaper for long and power users might not use wallpaper at all.

Being this is not the final and I'm sure the installer will be fixed, it's got a fighting chance! When the installer gave the error I took the disc out etc and I'm not sure what made it work...I think it done that when I started the upgrade...but my network said 14+ hours and I wasn't willing to wait. 20 minutes later I was running Mageia 4.

Again, the network problems were ice storms, not Mageia. If 5 isn't a bunch better I'll be keeping 4 until 6 comes out, it's that good.

Ok, so anyway, if you need anything checked I'll try. I have not compiled anything, didn't have too! I used to get unlucky and get a bad driver, or no driver like my new 1155 board but this time everything worked!

One thing, network device names. Conky needed edited and I'll have to research it a bit because I don't know why it changed.
