Thanks for a excellent Linux Distro

Hi all ,

I Installed Magnia early today. I am very impressed with the overall quality of this distribution .A few days ago I decided I would give a ubuntu ago again, after using it for several months only to go back to windows, mainly due to it having the best choice of music production programs for the electronic style of music that I like.

I installed LInux ubuntu, then also tried Linux mint. Both of these O.P.S gave me issues and felt buggy . Anyway via distro watch I came upon the mageia home page .

It was refreshing to read
Mageia is a GNU/Linux-based, Free Software operating system. It is a community project, supported by a nonprofit organisation of elected contributors.
Our mission: to build great tools for people.
Further than just delivering a secure, stable and sustainable operating system, the goal is to set up a stable and trustable governance to direct collaborative projects.

It's a very encouraging sign that such a quality and professional thought out linux operating system , based on the fundamentals of freedom, as in speech ,is flourishing amongst the weeds of many not so healthy systems .
AND the operating system is great (apart from one issue which I'll post in the relevant section). It looks well thought out ,feels professional ,the devs are paying good attention to detail and it's newbie friendly :-).

I'm enjoying it so far. The last few updates came through with no problems, and I've been using Mageia 3 as my desktop computer since the reliability came up with the last of the Beta test series. It would be fun if sync support was added for my antique HP Jornada 720 pocket pc, but I'm sure the Mageia team has more important things to do.

Thanks for all the hard work!

did you try
Code: Select all

Oh wow, I had an HP Jornada :) took that thing everywhere; it was excellent for helping me keep track of everything.

I'm curious how/if it works with kitchensync, since the Jornada relies on a proprietary Microsoft program to sync it with a PC.

Kitchensync might work if I ever figure it out, but the help files weren't installed with the application.
I'm using a USB-to-Serial adapter with the Jornada, which allows use with Windows 7, but not reliably. Oddly enough, it doesn't respond the same way every time. I can't say I've put a high priority on making it work with Linux at the moment, because I'm currently trying to get Mageia to connect to my Arduino Uno card and launch the IDE.

The Arduino problem is already known so I suppose someone is working on it. My thanks for those unsung heroes of Mageia.
