Just wanted to share my experience with Mageia 1 KDE
Of course we all start with downloading the .iso and so, I chose to download the torrent file at www.linuxtracker.org since in my experience, downloading via torrent is less error-prone. I then burned to CD and there goes Mageia 1 LiveCD on my desktop.
After using the LiveCd and checking that I can surf and there is internet connection, I then press the "Install" icon. I choose to replace everything on my drive so that I have a pure Mageia 1 KDE installation.
When I was done with the installation, I was expecting some minor issues (solvable) to appear.
1) No Sound - was solved by opening "alsamixer" in the Konsole (terminal) and then increasing the volume on the "master"
2) No Picasa - I made a mistake of downloading Picasa-3(Beta) which does not work properly with Mageia. And so I installed Picasa-2.7 which is the stable version for Linux. And it works!
3) I installed "sun-java" and "flash-plugin" via the Mageia Control Center so that I can surf the way it should be
4) I configured my printer again via the Mageia Control Center > Hardware > Configure Printing and Scanning.... and then my Epson Stylus T10 now works like a charm!
Just wanted to say that so far, everything works perfectly and everything I need for my day-to-day activities and office stuff can be handled by this beautiful Linux Distro!
Cheers to the Mageia Team!
