I was one of the post writers in the mandriva site wishing that the two communities had not split but upon reflection I think that it is good that they have moved on in here from mandriva. I say this because I have been able to surf with a live cd from mageia and that was impossible with mandriva 2011. I also mention it because I disliked the ROSA additions in mandriva and thought the changes they made to it resulted in something that was not truly a mandriva release anyway. I was not so sure about Mageia with version 1 although it worked ok when I tried it but Mageia 2 is very good and it is stable. If it had all the possible KDE packages (krecipes  ) I would even say it was excellent to great.

It has been nice to debate about features in here with topics that interest me like root log in or Firefox use and not create a flame war like my similar posts in the past created. All in all, great stuff!

Cheers,

gcd

I too am missing the wide array of packages available for Mandriva. But I am NOT missing the reality that many of them were either buggy or failed to work at all. I LIKE the fact that new packages are slowly being added to Mageia and all are being supported to the degree that they almost without fail work flawlessly. - George
