FWIW, Adobe said that it will issue security updates after releasing linux version of flash player 11.2 for the next 5 years, so the plugin will still be available.

PMFJI very late, but I loved this thread about browser choice.
I have been a Linux user for donkey's years, and was amazed in the earlier days at the number of browsers offered by a full install: Mozilla, Netscape, Opera, Konqueror, Epiphany, Galleon. It was interesting to try them. For years my preferred choice has been - & remains - OPERA, which has been faithful to Linux from the start and deserves our support. In my book, *that* is the standard browser to offer. Alas, it is picky and some sites do not work, so everyone *needs* a second browser (or more). If you have KDE, do not deride Konqueror. For Gnome, Epiphany is nice & clean & simple.

.I am not a fan of Firefox, but it is the main other desktop-independant choice. Whatever advantages Chromium might have, there is no doubt that Google will be profiting from your use of it - as with anything else of theirs you use; it is in their nature. I steer clear of them on all fronts (except Google Earth).

Well I am glad we have Firefox. For me I started using Firefox and Thunderbird with MS and this pointed me in the right direction to Linux and now Mageia is my main operating system for my play PC. :D

I have tried Chrome when it first came out and didn't like the UI, my opinion. Also, as mention, Konqueror comes with KDE and Epiphany comes with Gnome, not sure if it comes with Gnome 3. So I stick with those as a backup browser.

Doesn't Chrome depends on WINE? If so, then I don't feel that is native linux code and another reason not to make it a default browser for Mga.

Thnx.

Nope, maybe you've mistaken chromium/chrome for teamviewer?

I didn't make that mistake, they are two different programs. But I thought when Chrome first came out for linux it ran within Wine.

Oh well. I'm still not a fan yet.

just my two peneth in an already well used thread.

I absolutely hate chromium or chrome, im not particularly favoring firefox's attempts at trying to make there browser look like it either.

Chrome is great in android, and thats where it should stay. Firefox is not good in android, but is excellent on a full blown OS (windows I have to use at work, but Mageia at home, and on the move.)

however at least with firefox i can disable tabs, and emulate FF3 look and feel, and add my fav addons, like adblock, downthemall wot, etc.

Im certainly happy with Mageia's choices, and dont want to have to remove chrom* every time i build a system.

just my opinion, I dont expect anyone else to see it my way.

I last used Chrome/Chromium some years ago, at the time there was no real ad blocker like there is with ad blocker plus for FF.

Also last time I tried Chrome/ium there was a flash blocker but it would still stream the flash video in the background, the 'blocker' just wouldn't display it - anyone know if thats the case ? - I didn't like it at the time

I have to admit I do like the UI of Chrome/ium but the plugins and flexability of FF is what keeps me using it and I can't remember the last time I had any stability issue's with it.

just my 2 pence

Yes, there are nearly the same Ad and flash blockers for Chrome/ium and there are also a lot of plugins, to be fair. Not as much as for Firefox, though :)

I use both Firefox and Chromium. I like Chromium better, but Firefox is more familiar, so I end up using it most of the time. - George
