Mageia 2 technical specifications

Postby ennael » Jun 9th, '11, 16:00

Hi all

This is a mail sent today on mageia-dev mailing-list.

Following yesterday's meeting (See http://meetbot.mageia.org/mageia-dev/20 ... 19.04.html), we will start now listing what we could have in Mageia 2 technical specifications. As a result, please have a look in http://mageia.org/wiki/doku.php?id=iso2 ... cification.

Feel free to add proposals in any listed items (or add new one). Please add your name and explanations about it.

Deadline for proposals is 22th of June. Of course we will have to discuss about proposed choice, reject some if not reasonable or plan some others on long term projects. This will also depend on decision regarding release cycle (discussion on that point will start tomorrow)

Cheers

I'm really happy that there are numorous things that will be done (and that was not done in Mandriva) :
- XML metadata
- DrakX redisign
- Urpm backend for packagekit

Thanks Mageia !!

I don't want to be a bad girl but as said on wiki page, these are proposals. Still we will need to choose and organize all this, to make things fit between resources, feasibility... Stay tuned :)

i saw that the mageia 2 will use rpm-4.9 instead of rpm-5

is this true or just suggestion

=====+++++==================

any way if this is just a suggestions page

then for the games

can any one add there the games emulators there like

pcsx / pcsx2 / dolphin-emu

===============

and for the others

improving rpmdrak and let it can cancel the progress

we always know that rpmdrak when it download something have lots of dependency then it will seperate those in many groups

and after finishing one of those groups it will start to install all of its packages and continue to complete downloading/installing the other groups like this

my suggestion here when we give rpmdrak a cancel command then it will respons at the moment between finishing the installing the first group and downloading the other group

so how about it

Urpm backend for packagekit: so in mageia 2 we will have packagekit instead of MPM (mandriva package manager) or instead of the installer gui in the mageia control center?
DrakX redisign: this means a rewrite of the mageia control center (maybe with qt in the kde one)?

My proposal is don't put any gtk application in the kde iso and no qt application in the gnome iso. So rewrite with qt the mageia control center.

I like a lot KDE foorum's way to vote for a idea. Why not use the same for Mageia? http://forum.kde.org/brainstorm.php#cat83

I like gnome2, but those days are drawing to a close
KDE is nice but resource hungry
I use chrome of chromium, picasa & google earth. it would be nice if they were in the repository....

Well, according to Mageia App DB, chromium is in the repos (search for chromium-browser, for chromium is a video game).

Maybe a simple to do (GUI-)livecd-maker, so one can backup the whole system without efford in another way then with cloning.
