Hello to the Mageia community. As I am typing this post, I am "test driving" a live session of Mageia 3, which I downloaded this morning. So far, really enjoying the "ride," so I will look forward to upgrading from 2 to 3. Great job to all the developers and contributors!

Phoronix was on ball then  , grabbed the live version yesterday ready to do kids/misses comps over the course of the next few days .

Might try the upgrade via DVD as I normally prefer to do a clean/fresh install and just keep the home partition,

My install has switched from cauldron to release repos automatically , must have been the update yesterday when it did that. ;)

just installed mga3 on the box that usualy gives me the most trouble, that usualy sets the benchmark
of how other mageia installs will go.
Install was perfect, not a single glitch.
just all worked.

for refrence thats a nforce3 chipset with geforce 6800GT, amd/phenom1 2.3 gig, 4 gig ram.

only thing i dont like about it is the dropping of a mandriva/mageia unique look and feel, ie laora.

I do think mageia should not just look like all the other kde distros, and i dont particularly like oxygen, or the plasma taskbar, but those can be fixed.

oxygen looks too much like the macosx windows, and I just dislike that whole look and feel entirly.

laora kept that conservative kde3 like look, and for me, that was important.

but all this critisism , is purly personal taste and does not detract from this being a great desktop environment.

well done.

Just upgraded 2 to 3 till late last night. Only problem I had was with my un-supported nVidia card (same as when I installed 2 - Logon and get a completely black screen!). Had to boot into Windows, look at the replies to my old Mageia 2 post and follow steps. All good. I'll see how I go with my problem I have ben having with losing the Taskbar when I am in LibreOffice Writer or Calc.

Looks good so far, thanks for all the hard work to the entire Mageia team, well done!

Hi All,

Congratulations to Mageia team for the new release.

But I have to backward to mga 2.

I had big troubles installing the new version.
I could not update from mga 2. I did have to install from crash.

And when using kwrite and some other tools, I got into troubles.

May be that I install too much software that interact each other.

So, I will, for the moment, use mga 3 in Virtualbox and install only the software that I need until solved.

Regards.

Starting with the complimentary thank you to the entire team.
Now that woes that I have had. First I will say it is not the fault of the Mageia developers/packagers, but the problem has arisen that many of the packages that I have used for a long time have been updated sooooo much that my system wouldn't work with them. I ALWAYS back up my system before installing a new release. I have never tried upgrading one so I wouldn't know if it's wise or not. When installing a new release I usually format my /home to clear out the gunge that accumulates.
This time my efforts did not work. Apache for one have changed the config file sections quite drastically, of course until I found this out I could not understand why my trusty website didn't work. :o That's only one instance and there are quite a few more.
What I am trying to say is if something is broken when you install/update then check very carefully your config files etc. Even the desktop has changed dramatically, for the better I must say.
Well done guys and gals.

Hi,

I do understand you position and your way to upgrade.

I always make a backup of my data before upgrading and try the 2 types of upgrade.
I always start with a new clean home directory.
I do not blame Mageia team, because if you red my post, you will see that there are some kde programs and environment that do not work.
And, as I develop some applications with my Clipper/XBase compatible compiler Clip-ITK, I did not get any trouble with previous version.

That is why I backward to Mageia 2 and everthing run fine.
I will make more test before using Mageia 3 in production.

Cheers.

Great Job! 8-)

I was a little late to the party, but got it downloaded and installed this morning. So far so good. I was a little surprised it installed legacy grub, but I note that grub 2 is available in the repositories. I'll upgrade to grub 2 once I have a chance to check out any gotchas in the upgrade.
