Yes, that is my system I installed it on. I did have the Gnome x86_64 for awhile but now using the x86_32 KDE install.

Maybe we should create a thread for users to post their hardware and other specs. The dev team may could use it for a guideline or something similar!

Just a thought.

Thnx.

Upgrade from Mandriva via urpmi as described here http://mageia.org/en/1/migrate/#urpmi does not work:
# urpmi.removemedia -a
# urpmi.addmedia --distrib --mirrorlist

readds mandriva's mirror back
I guess something else should be upgraded before "--mirrorlist" would work?
(using direct mandriva url work though)

You must install the mgaonline package first (as per the instructions here http://www.mageia.org/wiki/doku.php?id= ... riva_linux).

I'll notify the webteam about the http://mageia.org/en/1/migrate/ page.

Hi!

Congratulations!

Reading the Release Notes, my brain played tricks to me. I was reading:

"Mageia will go on using all the familiar dark tools"

Ironically, isn't it?

Is it just me or is anyone else having issues with 64 bit dvd download......

I have tried it three times, through 3 mirrors (greek, german and standard download), every time I download, it says it is downloading a 4 gig dvd file (3.6.....), but when it gets to 2 gig, it just says download complete, I check the file and it states it is a 3.6gig file but when I click on properties it shows as 2gig in size.

Obviously the md5 doesn't match...... huh, I tried the live iso and I so wan to download and install the 64bit version........ been waiting for days and days to release.

Well, congratulations ! I have the live, I will install it as soon as I can find
some spare time (I am very busy in this period. I tested the beta on several
notebooks, with almost no problems)

I have been disappointed by the lack of info on the net about mageia after the first announcement.
For instance, just yesterday, the day of the first mageia release, softpedia reported the following news:
Mandriva 2011 Beta 3 Looks Awesome, Screenshot Tour
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Mandriva ... 3668.shtml

A coincidence ?

I am sooo looking forward to it, trying another browser to download as I am on kubuntu and it is as buggy as hell.

I always had a sweet spot for mandriva, I loved pclos due to this, but I had to stop using both for several reasons, that is why I was so happy to see mageia, mandriva without the bloat would be awesome, live cd works fine, plays nice, I had zero issues, but I can't seem to get the 64 bit dvd to download, lets see if rekonq has any better luck, if not I suspect bad upload to servers, anyone here managed to download the 64bit version yet??

Usually i have very good downloads from:
http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/mageia/iso/1/

But most of the servers are quite busy right now, so no guarantee.

thanks for that, you do realise now you posted that, everyone will try it and you will have shot yourself in the foot there...... :D ;)

only joking, thanks a lot, I am currently still downloading using rekonq, not one for superstitions so i am going to say it's past the 2gig point, fingers crossed.

Ok, looks like the issue might be chromium browser running in kubuntu, I have used chromium browser religiously for quite some time, and I have never had this, so I would say it's kubuntu, as I have lots of serious issues with it at present, in fact I have in the last three releases, it's as buggy as hell.

I am now at 3gigidy.... and going well (gotta love quagmire.. :D )

If it fails again use the torrent - in a terminal :
Code: Select all
aria2c ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/iso/1/torrents/mageia-dvd-1-x86_64.torrent

It also saves on server load. :-)
EDIT Note: The command above will complete the full download, not just obtain the .torrent file.

and when you have downloaded you can seed as well, give something back. I've been seeding for the past 18hrs.

Congratulations! I supported this project since the beginning. I downloaded the DVD but I haven't installed it yet.
I am going to announce this release in "my" forum (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/)

When downloading big files, it's recommended to use a dedicated downloader instead of a web browser, e.g. wget or curl from terminal
Code: Select all
wget <url_of_the_iso>

to resume a download (you have to cd to the directory containing the ISO first):
Code: Select all
wget -c <url_of_the_iso>

Or if you're using an ftp mirror, use an FTP client e.g. filezilla or gftp.

To fix a partially downloaded file, you can use BitTorrent, there're many BitTorrent clients out there, transmission, qbittorrent, ktorrent, deluge:
- Grab the relevant .torrent file from http://mageia.org/en/downloads/
- Open it with any BitTorrent client
- Let it start, so that it creates the files on the HDD
- Stop the download and close that client
- Open the directory created by the torrent file
- Copy the partially downloaded .iso to that directory overwriting the file that exists there
- Start the torrent client and it should check the file, and only download the missing pieces

Escuse mua, but I'm gonna post my sadness..

I'm really displeased that Russian language is missed by the developers in: 32-, 64-bit DVD and Dual-Arch distros at the download page. But there'are presented its dialects - Belorussian and Ukranian. Why? You have cut your Russian-speaking users from 400 mlns to 60 mlns.

Also the russian version of the site is translated partly, awry, there is no Mageia's russian forum.

If you have the most Mandriva's developers, why do Mandriva's russian pages update in time, there are the support, software mirrors and update?

P.S. I have decided not to install Mageia, because Mandriva is approved by Russian users, EduMandriva is widely used all over the CIS (~1/3 of the planet) and Mageia is a fork of the fork of the fork and has the shady future.

Sorry, if I have taken your time.
