Let me start with introducing myself. My name is Erik Fosnaught and I have 20 years experience in IT and live in the United States. While most of my experience is in Windows based networking, I do have experience in doing Red Hat Administration. I am learning about Mageia and I see that it has a Desktop Operating System version but was wondering if there was a Server version. The reason I am looking into this is because I do not like the direction that Microsoft is going with Windows 8 and Windows 2012. I think the North American/US market is ripe for a good alternative to the Microsoft model. I am looking for someone to maybe help me develop Mageia as this alternative.

Thank you
Erik Fosnaught

Hi there,

there are no special versions for desktops and servers as that doesn't make much sense.
Mageia is perfectly suited for both uses, but for professional usage you may want to first read through viewtopic.php?f=29&t=9737

Also it depends what you define as server usage. Most people would say no X server and only the packages that are really necessary, hence a minimal installation.
Others still want a graphical interface as they might use the server also as their workstation, so they need the full installation.
