Support for rEFInd (UEFI) boot manager in drakboot

Postby martinw » Feb 7th, '15, 22:43

As I know there are other Mageia users that use the rEFInd boot manager, I've submitted my patches to add support for this in drakboot (the boot configuration GUI used in the installer and MCC) at https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15153. This just provides an easy way of creating and modifying the refind_linux.conf file in /boot to configure the boot menu entries and options that are accessible via the F2 key in rEFInd. Note that the same configuration applies to all kernel versions found in /boot (which will be presented as separate icons on the rEFInd boot screen) - this just lets you set up normal/noframebuffer/failsafe entries and add any necessary kernel boot options.

I don't hold out much hope that these patches will be accepted (or even noticed) by the Mageia developers, but it's not hard to apply them yourself if you want to.

why is patch not accepted by mageia developers? is patch not good, or developers don't like patch they don't do themself?

Thanks for the contribution, martinw.
One question, with kernel updates, will we need to manually change configuration files for rEFInd file or will this be taken care of automatically?
In all (not much though) of all the OS's I've tried, it (kernel updates) has to be manually changed in rEFInd and as a side note, systemd boot (bootctl) also requires the manual change in its entry.conf.
Grub (both grub2 and even grub-legacy) takes care of that automatically.

Can this be done in rEFInd (and if you know, in systemd boot also)?
Thanks.

ps: gummiboot is deprecated by systemd boot (bootctl)

@plspls: Did you actually read the bugreport? Thierry already adapted it from what I understood so mga6 should have refind support AFAICT.
