hello every one

i just finished now making a good menu from an applet plasma called (( stakefolder ))

and i want to ask our developers if they can import the idea of that applet and make a main-menu from it for mageia

because it will not contain the new programs if they has been installed

will enough of speaking , and here is my work

It looks interesting, and I can see that you put a lot of work into this.
But I personally don't like it, for two main reasons:

1. Watching that little box pop up and down every time I enter a new submenu gets very old very fast and will start to waste my time.

2. There is no quick way to get from a very deep submenu back to the top, or even somewhere in the middle. I need to keep clicking "back" "back" "back" "back" until I get there.

I am not a devel, "just" a user. And if this were to become an optional menu in Mageia 2 I think I might try it out for a little bit, but quickly switch back to the KDE launcher.

Same here. It looks nice and I think it will likely attract a certain group of users - same users who are attracted by the Kickoff menue style (which is very similar). But for me I see the same disadvantages as I see in teh Kickoff menue - Max described it very well in his point #2.

i was hoping that this idea will make a unique menu just for mageia but since there is no one support it then i think that i shall ask KDE developers about it

or our arabian fedora based distro team (( ojuba ))

Sorry that no developper had the time to read this on a Sunday and jump to the idea.
May be you give it a little bit more time than a few hours?

Have you asked on development or discuss-mailing lists? Most developers don't read forums ...

Well, according to the welcome on board thread:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1

What you will find here
This forum is dedicated to Mageia community from end user to contributer:

community: discussions, official information and local one
support: basic or advanced support on Mageia distributions
contribution: report here all feedbacks about development releases, ask for help if you want to become new contributer, speak about issues about your favorite package...

You reported here, and i'd tell you better place is mailing lists, so you can discuss with the developers and users.
And you don't need to inform me of the answers, but the forum readers. So just post here the outcome of you proposal on mailing list.

Well if end users don't like it, i'm not sure it's wise to propose it later to KDE developpers :)

But he has a point - AFAICS there was only one end user who gave his opinion in this thread about the proposal, pretty weak for a decision, no?

Huh. I meant you have point - you put up your proposal and your work here, and only one potential end user answers.
That's why i suggested the mailing lists, to reach more people. Maybe you misunderstood.

Sorry to be nit-picking but there were 2 end users answering: max and I. :)

Your menu starts from a good idea and seems pleasant actually. But it mises some features :

- A search bar. When people have a lot of applications or shortcuts, they often want to search an exact one rather than looking in categories. No way to tag few favorite applications or often used ones yet as well.
- Your menu has yet one issue currently : you need to click a lot to see each category and sub category. There is no way to see a wide range of apps only in a few clicks or just by hovering. It can therefore be seen as a click-o-matic.
- For each click in the menu, there are two animations that can slow down things (the roll/unroll animation). I think these animations from the window manager aren't necessary and may affect experience on slow computers.

Otherwise, it is good. I'd suggest you try to improve these two aspects. I wish it could not only be for KDE and be ported/portable to GTK environments. :)

Note aside, true fact : developers, in most open source projects world wide, never read the forums (if there is). All open source projects technically work in mailing lists, so posting them and following them is indeed a good idea. There, they read most messages and surely the one you just posted. ;)

as i said before

its just an plasma applet so dont expect that there is any chance that i can add (( search bar ))

i am no developer i am just an imaginer who can imagine a good ideas and give it to developers to make it real

so ....... as i said before our developers can import the idea of that applet working and make a really beautiful and helpful menu from it and improve it

Writing plasma applets is for KDE dev's. Mageia is a linux distribution - which means that Mageia distributes software (created by others). With the exception of distro specific config tools, Mageia dev's do not normally create software.

A more appropriate place to make your proposal is at:

By the way, what do you find so wrong about Lancelot menu or Kickoff?

http://userbase.kde.org/Plasma_application_launchers
http://userbase.kde.org/Lancelot
http://userbase.kde.org/Plasma/Kickoff

What are you missing from them?

lancelot is perfect menu at look but the problem here it doesnt support my language very well just at its looks look at this PIC

Image

the old menu is perfect at looks and its simple so i should keep it

but kickoff it has the same problem that max told us about it if there no search bar what will you do

and beside as for me it is ugly menu less helpful menu

Well then report this at KDE forums or on KDE bugzilla, Mageia has not enough resources for such things, like jkerr82508 already mentioned.

It would not be bad to have Mageia optimized projects, as a community distribution. Yet, this can only rely on the creator of the application or applet and not on Mageia developers because they are already very busy. ;)

You can change the size of the lancelot menu to suit your needs. I see it's the width you care about. Move your mouse pointer to one of the edges (left or right, I think in your case the left edge) of the menu.
Then the mouse pointer turns into something like this: <-->
Click and drag the edge as far it is comfortable for you.

No, I think the problem is that Lancelot does not support rtl writing. The screenshot looks as if the text is aligned left while in rtl it should be aligned right.

as like Mr.wobo said

the problem at it

is its looks and the method of writing

the two of them should be rtl not ltr
