Reporting system and intelligent management of bugs

Postby Mag » Jun 22nd, '11, 21:05

Somewhere in Internet I found the following idea, someone spoke of a reporting, monitoring and management of smart bugs, so that non-technical people that use Linux can send an error report as Firefox in Windows or system error reports MS. Windows (they work well?) only send to the ideal database. An intelligent system that if the system fails this will detect, classify it and send the necessary information while respecting privacy and permission.

There is something similar?, You can do in the future ...? may be taken among all the Community Open Source and Free Software?...

One of the good things of Live CDs is that you can use Linux when and where you want included on borrowed computers or work :P

AFAIK Mandriva is implementing such a system. This may make it easy on users but it will also increase the number of reports very much. This is not bad but you also need a matching number of people who will care for the bugs, otherwise it's counterproductive. don't think that we have the needed number of people by far. But this is more a question to the packagers/sysadmins than to such a non-techie as /me.

abrt is a tool to help users to detect defects in applications and
to create a bug report with all informations needed by maintainer to fix it.
It uses plugin system to extend its functionality.

abrt is in the Mageia core repo, but I've never tested it and have no idea how well it works.

thank you both, well I'm glad that in the future you can use something like this and also know that at the moment is not suitable for such tools.

Thanks again.
