Creating a top software list to not remove

Postby pmithrandir » Jun 29th, '13, 12:10

Hello,

In the last upgrade, skype was uninstalled to apply some update on video drivers.

Personally, I don't think this is something acceptable for a distribution. Regarding Quality of Service, it's something people will see immediately.

To resolve this issue and prevent it to happen again in the future, don't you think it would be interesting to create a list of "Top" application that must be checked before putting all upgrade online.

For me, the important software are :
- Firefox
- Chromium
- Skype
- Smplayer + codec
- KDE / gnome
- MCC
- Libre Office

With a simple rule, if any of these application get affected, the upgrade cannot be validated.

What do you think ?

Better yet would be a snapshot/rollback feature like windows has had for decades.

@oj: Sorry, but that is offtopic here.

So, did you join the Mageia QA team yet to help them with such things?
You know, they are already completely overworked, and what you suggest would multiply their workload ...
