Intel fake-RAID support

Hi,

I STRONGLY propose to get fake-RAID working at all, GUYS.

Now - I don't know who, but he FORGOT: dmraid, or mdadm... Let's decide and do some support for fake-RAID users !
So far - there's NO fake-RAID support in startup files, so installer doesn't recognize fake-RAID existing volumes - and what it causes - Mageia couldn't be installed on such volumes (installer sees drives consisting of the RAID volume).

There IS support in kernel.
There ARE kernel modules.
BUT... no modules are pre-loaded during install, or LIVE stage.
So using tools like dmraid or mdadm is USELESS in such case. And I doubt, if there's any dmraid init during startup to recognize ANY RAID (not fake only) volumes.

Get it done, guys, as you've got ALL tools needed in Mageia. Let's configure it properly to work.

Well, best open a bugreport, after searching if it hasn't been reported yet already: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly

Hi all:

As per Biuro's frustration, and mine - see:https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5191&hilit=dmraid

And a bug report https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9440

I'm sure the solution will be simple, but we just need guidence from those who understand the boot process.

Biuro does your raid show up if you run

Code: Select all
dmraid -ay

Mine does, and I can then mount it manually. It's a pain in the neck, and should be picked up during boot and mounted using fstab - just like any normal hard drive or partition. This is how dmraid is supposed to work. It worked in the Mandriva distro's and kubuntu and kde mint distros.

I also have a thread running over in MUB forum on this topic.

Let's build some momentum and get this issue solved.

Here's my solution. It's not perfect, but will do for me until mdadm is sorted

Show up after some insmods first (as I wrote in previous thread).
I can mount, read, write such partitions and start an install, but install stops after some time with an error. The same was in case of an attempt of ROSA2012...

Looks like guys there cannot decide: to improve dmraid, or to stick to mdadm, and which one suppose to be one and only RAID tool for fake-RAIDs. Being wicked I'd say "what did I expect from guys fired from Mandriva if they cannot reproduce its functionality, even saying "it's for too few people" (really saw it somewhere)" ?
