Hi,

On the main website, when you open the download page : http://mageia.org/en/downloads/

There is a dual arch CD

What is it ?
Shouldn't we put some explanation and description of the CD / DVD to explain the differences ?

Pierre

Mageia Dual arch ISO

This ISO also uses the drakx traditional installer like the DVD ISO. It's considered a minimal installation disc (a ~ 700MB CD ISO), the only desktop environment available on the ISO is LXDE[1]. The strongest point of the Dual arch ISO, is it can be used to install either a 32bit system or an x86_64 system, the installer defaults to x86_64 when it detects a 64bit-capable CPU, but you can select which architecture gets installed from the initial graphical GRUB menu.

This ISO is more for advanced users and system administrator for fast deployment of Mageia. As it uses the same drakx installer, you can add the online repositories during the installation to install more packages, desktop environments… etc.

Since this ISO is considered the smaller sister of the DVD ISO, it also contains only free-open-source software.

[1] The installer offers options to install KDE and GNOME, even though they're not on the ISO, as you can install them from the online sources (for this to work you have to set up the online sources in one of the previous steps during the installation).

Might try the dualarch ISO out, actually, seems like a good form of Mageia to distribute out to others.

Dual is mainly for experts

Beginners will be frustrated about they need to add repos if thye are to get certain hardware running, and the included desktop is not like th emain other OSes.

I suggest using the Live disks for handling out to friends.

19 months later, it is hardly surprising that things have changed. :)

You can post report or requests for changes as bugreports: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly
Just choose "Websites" as product in the first step: https://bugs.mageia.org/enter_bug.cgi
