it's a simple function @like or @g.plus
but just a little more extended as we do in rl. i'd like to have an optional voting system for some posts in bugs@ and forums@ of mageia.org, really just a simple table with posts id, with summing + and - field and total voted, and for users just one more table with postid of already voted (just like favorites and not really)
for me it would be nice to know for example what people thinks of this exact post, for community it's kinda a compas of what users would actually like and some sort of basic taste.
on start this can be a voting for topic not for each message, but really with bugs it would be nice for example if i found the same bug to support it with not just another post "yeah i got the same bug", but just add +1 and some posts in topics could be more interesting so they could be topped a lil more in 3d way for example - yeah looks like it's a new viewport that will need some scripting, so the topped ones posts will be like on the <div z-index=2> and not topped <z-index=1> and the tree itself could be a little moved to the left so <on-mouse-over> the post can be raised or you can just click the button and see all tree as usual, and in this treeview topped posts will be more like visible or somehow marked, so this treeview can be implemented through the board preferences - sorting and display options.
so for example to support this topic right now - you just can't. or you can write an answer with a smile for example - it's nice - but some #ideas )for example( can be just flooded...
and i think it would be nice for users to have and option of changing their opinion, but only few times (few more true\false fields in table, so if user reached the end then the most used opinion will be left or it will stay even but will give more weight for another post in this thread)
And users with more posts that was plussed will actually have more weight also aka experts in forum, so they can probably op or deop more, by doing this they will share their karma also.
it would be really interesting to do it with firefox 3d function as a forum plugin, that can work not only with this exact forum but for any other where there are ratings system.
and even more i d like to have it in the irc way - so actually i can join an irc channel - and it was a topic in the forum and user from forum can send his message to the channel without logging in and i would reply him out of irc in real time and my post can occur - but this is a more complex system that needs more authenitcation basis (well at least username must be checked and with the same @mail it was the one user for example). but for the irc there sould be a special command (>public) so the post was going outside and inside irc conversation could be not so official.
so only topics of conversation would rise in ML and if user will subscribe for this thread he will be announced of the other messages.
and in irc channel you just send + or - and it will looks like a svn or git modified text, but also will raise the topic between topics and as many (+) will user set for some mosts then more (-) he can set for other posts in this thread, so if in the thread was 5 posts - then he can set 5 marks 3+ and 2- but for fun if he will minussing 4- posts then he can set +5 for some that he likes more, so those minus will raise his + bonus.

Well, we/I shared many such discussions about karma features.

The overall result is that in most cases the advantages of such a karma system will water down to almost nothing, saying nothing about the quality of a person's posts because the karma system says nothing about the persons who give these good or bad points. And the karma system does not say anything about the reason this or that good or bad point was given.

In short: it is a nuisance because it is more often than not the cause for flames, misunderstandings and wrong kind of competitions. Same as you can't say anything from the sheer number of a person's posts in a forum.

well for me those karma points just was needed to move message to the front or down of the list, the resulting points that will be gained by users it is just for them and actually you will be able to see what is user talking about mostly, what is he like and don't like so you can just think if you like his opinion or not, measuring not only 1 post published.
and this idea concerns ml as well =)) in mailing list i'm just getting everything and it is hard to discuss something without harming others that really don't want to see that, coz they're not interested - simply and they get that as a spam that they didn't wanted. so i don't want to get to maillist =) but thanks maybe i will

well yes you are right, just you can find something more than just karma, well i c for example that some "older" people will be able to calm down posts or raise some and i'm not really sure that it is a really good possibility, but this can be changed somehow by giving the @balance percentage but it is more complex thing and without first part well i'm not really sure if i should get more on this idea.
