List of testers

Postby pmithrandir » Mar 3rd, '12, 15:18

Hello.

I got the idea of a list of users, on cauldron, who will give their computer configuration.

The list would be available to the testers to help them when they have issues with a specific configuration.
For example, There is an issue with tuxracer on laptop 64bits with AMD processor and nvidia card... The package maintainers is unlikely able to get this kind of configuration.
But he could be able to use the list and contact maximum 2 or 3 people to ask them to test the function.

What do you think of that ?

I didn't know that something like that existed... Any way to add his name to the list ?

Wouldn't be easier to do the same in forum than on a wiki nobody use ?

A wiki nobody uses, would be interesting to know how you come to that assumption :?:

No, it wouldn't be easier as doing this in the forums that list could not really be maintained the same way as in the wiki,
it couldn't be managed properly by a group of people and there would be no version history and all the goodies a wiki offers.

I would say that a wiki with 3 names on a page, and that a user who use mageia from the start and who install cauldron to reports the bugs doesn't know is not something reliable.
Ask the same question on the forum and I bet you will have at least 10 users reporting their settings

;)

BTW, you don't need it to be updated for years, one or 2 month would be enough the time to stabilize mageia 2.

Sorry i don't know what you're talking bout. Just using Mageia from the start and doing forum posts doesn't mean you know everything about the project internals.

Also just doing forums posts is quite useless, and just posting your settings here doesn't help anyone.
If you want it to be of use, you have to go with the official ways of reporting/documenting stuff, and
certainly a list of the QA team members or about Mageia 2 testing is the right thing to use.
Also by joining QA team you would certainly help the quality of Mageia to become better.

This statement merits a reply - it is (a) far from being objectively correct and (b) totally unjust to those who - in a very short time - have built this wiki and created a tool for everyday work in support of Mageia.

I didn't know that something like that existed...

Isnt this in conflict with your other statement? I suggest you have a thorough look at the wiki, you might change your opinion. But there is something constructive in this remark: the wiki merits some "noise" to make it better known ;)

Maybe poke the https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Marcom_Team about that?
