Description of problem:

Hi, This is just an Idea!!!

It would be nice to have something similar to Ubuntu Software Center for Mageia (Or Android Marketplace).

Why?.

This is why.

1.- It is a nice way to show new users and old users what's new and which packages are best rated as well as recomended software and availability, and it would be nicer if it has video links to game demos and/or how programs work (Something like Android Market Place).

2.- It is a good way to get funds from contributors if you add Donate button to it, and it could be a good place to sell comercial software for Mageia the way Ubuntu Does or Android Markeplace, this way Mageia could get a % of every software they sell.

3.- Having a Screen Shot of an application, tool, game or any other software makes it easier for new users to know what to download. Specially those new to linux.

Ahy other Ideas?.

Best Wishes

There was already some progress in that area, check http://distributions.freedesktop.org/wi ... taller2011 and http://distributions.freedesktop.org/wiki/AppStream
The idea was to take Ubuntu Software Center, make it distro-agnostic, and share the infrastructure between all those distros. But haven't heard much about that since that meeting.

The user-experience of finding/managing software in Mageia is clunky and unintuitive. Something like the Deepin Software Center would be worth striving for. We seriously need to increase the user-friendliness of Mageia, especially during installation of the distro itself and for general app management.

unfortunately I have to agree with loqo as it's true that the package manager, which we inherited from mandriva, is not the best of the user-friendly. Mandriva is trying to remedy with the "mandriva-package-manager", but even that is not to be the best one.

There's already work in that area done, Mageia participated in the app installer meeting,
and the thing that will the result (some day) is currently called Appstream, probably taking the Ubuntu Software Center as basis.
