Solution for "screensaver breaking Mageia Upgrade"

Postby JY » Apr 17th, '22, 16:56

There are two (dangerous) little mistakes that can lead to a broken system during GUI upgrade following applet: those two are mentionned in the Release Notes of Mageia 8:
"-The tool does not work with Wayland! If you use Wayland, logout and log in using Xorg.
-Ensure any screen lockers have been disabled."

The issue is that many regular users wont read Notes, and will click the obvious applet blinking and appealing......And end up in a broken system possibly.
You can see the people suffering here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13182&p=77301&hilit=screensaver#p77235
How would this issue be solvable?
Applet disabling screensaver? Notes inside the applet? Any other ideas?

That would be wonderfull that Mageia regular users could just click the applet without fears...

Easiest solution is to start reading before you click a button. Or do you also sign a contract without reading the content?

Unfortunately i think most people dont read our release notes, as well as most phone apps agreements...

That said, yes more people are welcome to work on Mageia to improve it :) - This is a community built distro.
