As has been said before, this will be an issue to be discussed after release of Mageia 1.

Personal note: Hopefully not, I already have a smartphone :)

:D :D
I see unity as a sort of ... Canonical proprietary software ...
And they have made quite a mess by basing Unity 3D on mutter and Unity 2D on Qt.
Well, what about let Canonical tide their mess a little bit before bringing unity ?
(Personnaly, I think that a pure Qt unity should be adopt)

Unity should be possible, this is free software but this would requires several changes accross all packages. Various attempts to do so have failed, either in Fedora or Opensuse, see http://ostatic.com/blog/fedora-opensuse ... p-on-unity . Mathieu Bridon who worked on the Fedora packaging is a friend of mine, and is a old time fedora packager. He is perfectly able to do it, but the presence of non upstreamed patched and the need to changes lots of application for supporting Appindicator API cause problem.

Now, nothing prevent this once everything will be pushed upstream but I would not put much hope into that since Unitiy is still a moving target. So I would rather say to people to use Ubuntu if they want Unity ( as they do a good job as a Linux distribution after all, and we are all working together ).

Unity is horrible. (And I don't have a smartphone  ) Gnome3 is way better.
Image Flexibility is good and inxi is good... install both!

Unity-2D is nice...but 3D (composited version) is a mess. Unity w/ compositing is essentially a Compiz plugin and quite unstable. Compiz is at 0.9.4 currently...and the previous release, 0.9.2 itself is quite unstable. So you can imagine in what state Unity is...
