I would like to suggest a change in package manager.
A total progress bar should be added, so you would know the overral progress, not only the current file progress.

It would be nice to have a button to see the command line of whats happening while package manager installs (like synaptic has), but it is not a priority.

You can start Rpmdrake from console and watch the progress there.

Eventually you can drag the "Install & remove software" from the menu to the Desktop or panel and edit the icon so that in the Application > Advanced options tab "Run in terminal" box is checked.
Or edit it from the Menu directly, your choice.

The closest thing to the "button" you want is the Display logs from MCC (up left) Options, but it doesn't show that much.

While there is a progress bar only for the single packages (download and install) you have numbers indicating the total progress (5/15 tells that the current package is the 5th of a total of 15 packages). This may help to see where you are.

While that may be true, not all packages were created equal.
I could have finished 13/15 packages and still be only 20% complete.

If i remember correct there is an overall progress bar, when gurpmi installs some packages in the background,
like from harddrake2, you have only a small, really broad window. It tells the overall progress in percent,
the current package progress and which package from how many is currently being installed. The overall
percentage was also really accurate, so rpmdrake should be able to do that.

Well, I know I can see the progress and all the info in terminal, I haven't used urpmi many times, but in my previous distros I would use apt-get, so I don't even need to start rpmdrake. I just like the way Synaptic presents the installation info, so I'm suggesting something like that. Like I said, it's not a priority.

The total percent of the download/installation is something that would be useful for newbies, who may be afraid something is not working. That is something I think it is a priority.

Well, at least there is a progress bar at all. I don't think this is a priority, cosmetics should never be a priority.

Isadora, I don't really like to clutter my desktop with plasmoids, but thanks for the tip.

Doktor5000, I think it's not just cosmetic, new users are always afraid something is broken (I know many of them) and that will surely help.

Since there's a bug report on the subject, I guess the dev's will look at it.
