Is it possible to package "Nano" in the standard distribution? It is sorely missed by me, and I am sure others as well.

It has always been the second thing I do in Mandriva before, and now in Mageia. To install Nano. Just after I update the package list and find it. :mrgreen:

He knows that, he wants it to be part of the default install.
How many use it I don't know and is it worth pushing something on everyone that few use?

Few people use Nano? I had the impression lots of people use Nano.. But I might be wrong.

Most distroes include Nano, that I know.

Back when I used Mandriva I also raised this question. At the time they could not include it in the .iso file as they were distributing with a CD due to space constrains. Then they changed to DVD for 2011 and everyone started moving to Mageia. Afterall, it is not a huge package, takes only 600KB as an rpm file.

The question is, does the majority of people want nano to be the default editor? And not: Do many people use nano. Two totally different aspects.
Mageia also includes nano. And from what I remember, only distro that uses nano as default text editor is Ubuntu.

Doesn't have to be a default, just included in ISO. I don't know what is Mandrivas default editor anyways. Vim I guess.

I don't want to curse here, but not everyone likes vim. It's not exactly a simple editor.

As mentioned, add a feature request to our bugzilla for that. Here is not the proper place to discuss that, relevant developers will probably not even notice your post here.

Different strokes for different folks...

Speaking personally, I use nano if the alternative is vi. My strong preference is emacs.

I don't have nano installed on my Mageia host, though it is installed on a number of my OpenSUSE and custom VMs. I never use it on Mageia and would prefer that it not be installed; it would just suck disk space for no reason.
