CLI upgrade Mageia1 to Mageia2.

Postby Ken-Bergen » May 26th, '12, 03:05

The instructions say to change media from 1 to 2 then do
Code: Select all
urpmi --replacefiles --auto-update --auto
I did that and urpmi installed/upgraded 316 packages then restarted, which was expected.
Next it started to install/upgrade 2,659 packages which ended with a a error that two VLC plugins could not be installed.
I then ran the update again and surprisingly another 1,240 packages where installed/updated and again the error on the VLC plugins.

I have no idea if I would have had bootable system without the second update but I would suggest that
Code: Select all
urpmi --replacefiles --auto-update --auto
be run several times before rebooting and that the upgrade instructions be changed to say so.

I don't know if this affects the GUI upgrade.

I'm currently trying the update too, but by first downloading all update packages via
Code: Select all
urpmi --auto-update --noclean --no-install --download-all /home/doktor5000/mga2_upgrade

And normally when doing urpmi --auto-update the process should be restarted until it says "your packages are up to date". But you're right, the documentation should be fixed in that regard. Please report that as a bug against Mageia Websites: https://bugs.mageia.org/enter_bug.cgi?p ... mat=guided

After a reply to the bug report I found that the advice was not on an official Web page but the Wiki which I've now updated.

Mind to post the link to that page here? Before replying on the bugreport i've searched through the wiki and only found
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Upgrading_with_urpmi which is totally outdated and should probably not be used nowadays.
