E-MU USB 0202 device not seen in sound configuration

E-MU USB 0202 device not seen in sound configuration

Postby Pafcio48 » May 20th, '15, 09:08

Hi,
this is my first thread,
and in general I am new Linux user.
I found a problem in Megeia 5 RC Couldron, the sound configuration does not treat my usb sound card as the sound card, but lists it in the list of usb sound devices.
Also Alsamixer sees it.
What should I do to use E-MU USB 0202 as my main soundcard during listening to the music?
BTW I would like to use it only in ALSA mode.
thank you in advance for the answers!

Hi there,
out of curisosity, if you're a new user, why do you use Cauldron, which is the Mageia development version?
Granted, we are currently in freeze and it's 99% close to what will soon be released as Mageia 5, but you should still keep that in mind.
Pafcio48 wrote:BTW I would like to use it only in ALSA mode.

And for your hint, why do you only want to use it in alsa mode, and what is your use case for that sound card, what do you want to do with it?

Please show the output as normal user of
Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v
pactl list cards
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

Hi
to be honest I ignored the fact that this version is still developing.
Anyway it is workable
ALSA mode for the best sound.

Please expand on that, what do you think will be better in particular by using alsa? You will get the best sound experience out of the box with pulseaudio.

Also you miss the ooutput of
Code: Select all
pactl list cards

From what you posted, there's not even a device recognised for your E-MU sound card, so no driver can be loaded for it.
Are you sure it's properly plugged in and powered on?

Please also show the output of root of
Code: Select all
lsusb
journalctl -ab | grep -i usb

You forgot to answer the question, if the E-MU is plugged in properly and powered on?

It says "command not found", right? That command should come with a default installation, contained in package pulseaudio-utils

Hmmm, no USB devices at all. Can you re-run that as root, just to be sure?

You should have run that as root, please try again.

As a general hint and golden rule: Please only one problem per thread ;)
And yes, it certainly can see android smartphones, works just fine here, either in MTP or mass storage mode. Also adb works just fine.

Now it's on and also recognised, and the driver snd-usb-audio was loaded for it. Looks good and ready to use.

Your system seems to have serious issues with the USB bus ...

That seems very odd. It almost has to be a hardware problem, I think.

Is the sound card self-powered? Or powered from the USB bus? What happens if you insert a self-powered hub between your computer and the sound card?

Also, how did you confirm that the computer was hung? Just because the mouse did not move and the keyboard did not respond? This does not mean the machine is hung...particularly if the mouse and keyboard are connected via USB.

You should try accessing the computer via ssh when it appears hung. If you are able to log in, you will be able to determine exactly what the problem is...and if the problem is specifically on the USB bus or with the USB hardware in some fashion, you SHOULD be able to log in.

That will not fix your USB problems, as those are physical and not related to the software.
